Doc found bruising among rape victim’s injuries

A police medical doctor today outlined injuries to a 73-year-old woman who was allegedly raped some four years ago.

The accused reportedly had sexual intercourse with the woman, his roommate at the time, without her consent on August 13, 2016. He is on trial in the No. 5 Supreme Court before Justice Pamela Beckles and a nine-member jury.

Expert witness Dr Ross Herbert said he examined the elderly woman and noted bruising on her chest and breast, left and right eye injuries, a left ear laceration and evidence of her neck being squeezed.

He also said that the woman had vaginal bruising at the entrance and mild tenderness. However, there was no blood or tears.

Cross examination will be done tomorrow. The accused is represented by lawyer Lalu Hanuman and Senior Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney is appearing for the Crown.
