Candidate eager to agitate for constituents

Ambrose Grosvenor wants the opportunity to dispel the myth that you have to be a member of the ruling party to get things done as a Member of Parliament.

And the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) candidate for St George North has made it clear that if he is elected he will agitate for change on behalf of his constituents.

Grosvenor was the last of the six candidates contesting the November 11 by-election to enter the Valley Resource Centre to file papers for Nomination Day.

Accompanied by only a small crowd of supporters including former UPP president Lynette Eastmond, Grosvenor arrived at the centre at 2:05 p.m. after the departure of the People’s Party for Democracy and Development’s (PdP) candidate David Walrond.

After completing the process where he was proposed by Keisha Kirton and seconded by Ian Belle, Grosvenor told members of the media that he had already agitated for change for the people of the constituency.

“Last year August the Transport Board without any warning, without any advice, without any communication, withdrew the early buses that left Workmans to go to Bridgetown. I took it upon myself to get a petition going and that petition was successful and the buses returned.

“So therefore, that puts paid to the notion that you have to be an MP and more so on Government’s side in order to get anything done for the community. That is a myth that I am bent on destroying,” Grosvenor maintained.

He said all that was needed was proper representation for the people of St George North.

The candidate promised that if elected, he would do whatever is required to agitate on their behalf.

He also contended that there needed to be a strong presence in Parliament to keep the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) Government in check.

“This election is primarily about agitation. It is also about challenging the hegemony that has come about as a result of the BLP administration having a predominance of seats in the House of Assembly. As I canvas people are telling me without any prompting from my end that it is time to have another voice in Parliament; a voice that is vocal to challenge the hegemony that exists today in the House of Assembly.” Grosvenor said.

“I submit to you that if you look at the other persons who are contesting this seat, I stand head on shoulder when one looks at my bio, so I am pretty sure that I am the best of the candidates to represent St George North.” (RB)
