Flood Warning remains in effect for Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Services has extended the Flood Warning for Barbados until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

A flood warning is issued when flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall is occurring or is imminent within the warning area.

A tropical wave interacting with an upper-level diffluent pattern is continuing to affect the island this evening. The unsettled conditions generated continuous light to moderate rain and pockets of heavy showers throughout the afternoon. Over the past 12 hours, 1 to 2 inches of rainfall across some sections of the island has resulted in large settlements of water over fields and some roads. These features are expected to generate a further 1 to 2 inches of rainfall during the night. Due to the already saturated nature of the soil, any additional rainfall is likely to cause flooding. In addition to this, occasional gusty winds may cause an odd tree to fall.

Residents and visitors should note the possibility of large water settlements on roads which could result in delays on traffic routes with some roads becoming impassable. Large objects or debris from higher elevations may also become embedded within fast-moving water flows. Additionally, possible soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces is likely.
