Doctor says girl had vaginal injuries

The High Court today heard from the doctor who, 17 years ago,  examined a teenager who said she was raped by the 15-year-old boyfriend of her best friend.

Accused Theodore Taylor of Westbury Road, St Michael is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with the then 13-year-old girl on December 29, 2003.

Dr Banyo Ogunbuyi was attached to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital when he examined the young girl who complained of the sexual assault.

Under examination by Crown Counsel Joyann Catwell, the doctor said he conducted an examination of the girl and found that she had lacerations of the vagina that went through to her abdomen.

There was also the presence of “pus” which he attributed to the infection he found present in the patient.

Also giving evidence today was the complainant’s best friend who accompanied her to the hospital on December 29, 2003.

Following the young girl’s hospital visit they both went to the home of the best friend’s boyfriend.

The witness told the No. 5A Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Christopher Birch, while at the house in Westbury Road, St Michael she went to clean her clothes and when she came back she did not see the complainant.

She said she later discovered her lying down in a bed. The friend said the complainant indicated that she wasn’t feeling well.

The witness is expected to continue her testimony on Wednesday. However, when the trial resumes tomorrow, a police witness is expected to take the stand.

The alleged victim was first to testify in the proceedings.  She said the accused came into a bedroom where she had gone to lie down and forced her to have sex with him as she tried to fight him off.

She recalled that when she tried to leave the room the accused Tudor pushed in the door, locked it and blocked her from getting out.

Taylor is being represented by attorney-at-law Rita Evans while Senior Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas and Crown Counsel Catwell are the prosecutors. (BT)
