Salvation Army counting on generosity this Christmas

The Salvation Army will be counting on the Barbadian tradition of giving both at Christmas and in times of crisis, to overcome one of the most challenging Christmas Kettle fundraisers in recent history, coming in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This assessment comes as COVID-19 continues to have global and local repercussions, negatively impacting Barbados’ employment statistics and the economy in general.

The Salvation Army is however confident that it can once again rely on the traditional generosity of all Barbadians to band together in a crisis to help reach or surpass the set target of BBD $750, 000 needed to fund The Army’s annual budget on behalf of growing numbers of Barbadians in need of assistance.

Speaking at the Army’s recent Kettle Launch held at Heroes Square in Bridgetown, Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Cynthia Forde called on Barbadians to rally in support of the cause, as she brought official greetings on behalf of Minister of Health and Wellness and Representative of the City of Bridgetown,  Lt. Col. Jeffrey Bostic.

“An institution of almost 130 years has got to be doing excellent things and doing them right in order to be sustained to this level; and I know that The Salvation Army, as an institution, permeates every sphere of the world… so I say hats off to all of you who sacrifice day and night to make the difference in the lives of people but more particularly the people of Barbados and the region.”

New Divisional Commander Major Brenda Greenidge supported the rallying call and thanked the Army’s corporate partners, including major sponsor Scotiabank for their support. She said even in the most challenging of times, The Salvation Army was confident that it could count on the sacrificial generosity of the Barbadian people.  (PR)
