Teen found dead

The rural community of Dunscombe, St. Thomas has recorded its second unnatural death involving a teenager in less than two months.

On Wednesday evening, police revealed that Ashawna Ajada Sandiford, 17, was found hanging at her home. The discovery was made by her brother. The young lady was taken to the Sandy Crest Medical Centre in Sunset Crest, St James where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Although the incident has been widely reported as an apparent suicide, this has not been confirmed by police and numerous efforts to reach police public relations officer, acting inspector Rodney Inniss were unsuccessful.

The bizarre circumstances follow the unnatural death of 18-year-old male whose body was found by his father between two chicken coops on October 12th at around 6:30 p.m. The unfortunate incident was also believed to be a suicide.

Police have given no indication that the two incidents are related. For now, they are appealing to anyone with information that could assist their investigations to contact the District ā€˜Dā€™ Police Station at 419-1729, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or the nearest Police Station.
