Four outstanding care givers get special treat

It was an emotional celebration and farewell, for four members of the Barbados Child Care Board, who  dedicated more than 100 years of combined service, to caring for the island’s children at various Government nurseries around the island.

Angela Young, Rhonda Gittens, Margaret Russell and Gloria Nowell were treated to a surprise gift-giving ceremony at the Grazettes Day Nursery, in recognition of their unyielding dedication to the island’s children for several decades.

Supervisor of the nursery Sonia Boyce, lauded the group for their sterling service saying that they have always been dedicated and professional as they performed their duties.

“They gave dedicated service to the children of the Child Care Board. All like now they are still doing it… They assisted me, I could say Ms Russell, Ms Young, I stepping out to come back, and they were always willing to help us. I know personally that I will miss you all, but after dedicating so many years to the Child Care Board, you all deserve a break. I just want to wish you God’s blessings,” she said.

Margaret Russell, who is part of the group that is retiring, said that the ceremony was a big surprise as she assured the staff that she will dearly miss every one of them.

“I am so surprised… I said look what my supervisor has done to me. It was a great pleasure in working with the Child Care Board and all the children that would have passed through my hand.

“There were many children, and they are grown men and women today and even came back to me with their children to raise. It was an honour, and I feel really good…Let me say thank you to God and his goodness to me. It’s because of him that I have come this far. I will miss everybody, staff, children and parents. So keep the good work up,” Russell emphasised. (SB)
