Boost for farming project at Ignatius Byer Primary School

A farming project at the Ignatius Byer Primary School has received a major boost from ARC Irrigation.

Earlier this month, officials from the  company paid a visit to the Lowlands, St Lucy Primary School to donate a drip irrigation line inclusive of shutoff valves as well as a filtration system.

The generous gesture is intended to significantly enhance the school’s agricultural science programme, which includes the cultivation of lettuce, sweet potatoes, cassava and various seasonings.

Managing Director Rodney Reader spearheaded the donation and installation of the equipment that occurred on December 3.

Senior supervisor David Best, who was on hand to hand over the donation, told Barbados TODAY that the system would allow the rural school to supply water more efficiently to its produce.

Officials at Ignatius Byer have indicated that the school intends to add a marketing and sales component to the agriculture programme that will include the sale of produce to people in the community, and later to nearby establishments on a larger scale. (KS)
