COVID-19: Expect test delays, says health ministry

The Ministry of Health on Monday advised travellers to Barbados to expect some delays in getting back their COVID-19 results from the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Kenneth George said that this was partially due to an increase in visitors.

He said although this was regrettable, the Ministry of Health will make available all technical and support resources to ensure that the services are uninterrupted, and will be carried out in a timely manner.

Dr George noted that the laboratory was processing over 1,000 tests daily, and officials were working to ensure accurate results were returned.

He gave the assurance that the ministry was working diligently to clear the backlog, recognising that many plans for the Christmas holiday.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer apologised for the delays but reminded all to follow the COVID-19 protocols over the Christmas holiday. (BT/BGIS)
