DLP at Christmas: ‘Reach out and help’

President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Verla DePeiza on Thursday urged fellow Barbadians to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate in the community as they celebrate Christmas.

In her short Christmas message – Towards A More Just Society – DePeiza acknowledged that 2020 has been a challenging year for all. She warned that 2021 will call for persistence as individuals pull themselves up from a year of economic hardship.

She said: “This coming year, 2021, will call for resilience and tenacity like never before. We must ensure that our national pride manifest in the development of industry. There is no time like the present, to make that meaningful change.

“For this holiday season, let us remember those who have less and share willingly. Let us gather as families again, but embrace the extended family and those that live in our communities who may be alone at this time. And let us resolve to find the courage needed to make the significant changes which are necessary in every aspect of our development. This may seem a daunting task, but together we can do it. Our wish for you this season is that you stay safe and keep healthy.”

Wishing Barbadians all the best for the coming year, DePeiza expressed hope of light at the end of the tunnel.

“Fellow Barbadians, this year has been full of challenges for us,” she declared. “What we have though, are our people who have weathered bad times before. We learn to lean on each other and support each other. Together, we form the backbone of this nation, and remember the best ideas often are born of adversity.”
