Businesses temporarily closed as a result of COVID-19 developments

At least three establishments have closed their doors after having interacted with persons who tested positive for COVID-19.

Red Door Lounge and West Bar and Restaurant, all located on the West Coast, along with the popular Café Sol, have all temporarily suspended operations.

The upscale Port St Charles also reported having a “long-term resident” who tested positive for COVID-19.

In separate statements that were posted on their respective social media pages, the businesses revealed that persons who had recently tested positive for the respiratory virus had patronised them.

The development comes less than 24 hours after it was announced that the Ministry of Health and Wellness was investigating five local cases of COVID-19 in which the persons had no travel history.

It led to Prime Minister Mia Mottley enforcing a 12 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew from January 1, 2021, to January 14.

A statement from Red Door Lounge said all of its staff was tested today and was awaiting the results.

“As the country faces new restrictions in the fight against COVID-19 we will remain closed until further notice. This is due to the fact that a person who recently received a positive test result visited a few spots over the weekend including Red Door Lounge,” it stated on its Instagram page.

“Our staff has been tested today and will remain in quarantine until given the all-clear by the Ministry of Health…” the statement added.

West Bar and Restaurant said the decision to close was taken after a family member of one of its staff tested positive for COVID-19.

“We immediately closed upon learning of the family member and all staff members are in the process of being tested for the virus. All staff will again be tested 4-5 days from now,” the business said in a statement.

Café Sol, one of the more popular choices for persons celebrating Old Year’s Night, said it would be closing after learning that a patron at the restaurant returned a positive test.

“Our staff will quarantine as they await their results and once in the clear again we will reopen having performed a deep clean and sanitization of the restaurant,” it said in a statement.

According to a statement from Port St Charles, the resident returned a positive COVID-19 test yesterday.

Two other persons who were also tested remained under quarantine at an apartment on the upscale property.

“The apartments security camera system is being monitored as required by a local security firm,” the statement added. (RB)
