Health Ministry denounces misleading Instagram page

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has denounced an Instagram (IG) page, started by a visitor who stayed at the Harrison’s Point Isolation facility last month, as inaccurate and misleading.

The Ministry is in no way affiliated with the IG account, @harrisonspointbarbados, which seeks to deliberately paint the facility and its staff in a negative light.  The Ministry has advised the person or persons responsible for the delusive information posted to the account to cease and desist with immediate effect.

Barbados’ Emergency Management (COVID-19) Protocol (No. 4) Directive, 2020, Part 8, states: “No person shall transmit a video recording or audio recording of any person or in any way make known to the public the identity of any person who is in quarantine or in an isolation station.”  The Directive is valid until March, 2021.

Additionally, it further states that “a person who contravenes this Directive without reasonable explanation, is guilty of an offence, and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $50, 000 or to imprisonment for a term of one year, or to both”. (BGIS)
