Skai on path to beating dengue fever – Dad

Four-year-old Skai Greenidge is on the mend, her father Rommel Greenidge has reported.

Since an appeal was launched three days ago her condition has significantly improved as she fights dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Earlier this week, the infant was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she lay unconscious, needing a second blood transfusion after being diagnosed with the mosquito-borne illness.

Greenidge told Barbados TODAY that his daughter is now out of intensive care and is resting on Ward C8 with her mother.

He said that Skai has developed a blood clot in her right arm but it is being closely monitored by the doctors and nurses on the paediatric intensive care unit.

The upbeat dad said his child is not out of the woods yet but declared her health has taken a step in the right direction and he thanked the public for their overwhelming support.

“Let me start by yet again saying a heartfelt thanks to all who I know and who I don’t know that have prayed, donated blood, send thoughts, kind words, actions or just reposted for my daughter,” Greenidge said. “I can never repay any of you in any way for the faith that you kept for Skai. She is truly loved and blessed.” (KB)
