Sir Viv lauds Brathwaite’s squad

Former successful West Indies captain Sir Viv Richards has commended the West Indies squad following their 2-0 series win over Bangladesh, the regional side’s first such achievement since 2017

In the first Test West Indies chased 395 for an unlikely victory over their hosts before rallying to win the second Test by 17 runs on Sunday. Antiguan off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall claimed nine wickets in the match to be named Man of the Match while Jamaican Nkrumah Bonner was named Man of the Series.

“To Jimbo [Cornwall] and all the guys and as one of the past old individuals, I am extremely proud of the guys because that’s a great win. It is not easy to beat Bangladesh in Bangladesh because Bangladesh has taken down the very best of them from the guys at the very top of the list, so what they would have achieved is just a marvelous achievement,” he said.

The team was led by Kraigg Brathwaite whose captaincy has also come in for praise from the Antiguan legend.

“He’s just a cool individual and you’ve never seen him involved in any ruckus or anything like that. But what I know for sure is that he eats, sleeps and drinks cricket in terms of his mental attitude. He may not be as flamboyant as the other West Indian batsmen but when he goes in there, he has a plan. He may not accomplish it all the time but he has a plan of what he wants to get done and that was my first impression of him,” Sir Viv said.

Prior to the tour the batting great backed Brathwaite to do well in the sub-continent, adding he admired the Barbadian’s passion and dedication to the game. (Antiguaobserver)
