Vaccinations go past 9,000 – MOH

The COVID-19 vaccination rate inched toward the 10,000 mark while infection rates rose again with 39 new positive cases recorded on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health has reported.

The new positive tests came from the 967 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, while the death toll stood at 29.

There were 2,432 people vaccinated on Wednesday for a total of 9,115 jabs, with more women than men receiving the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine – 4,937 women and 4,178 men, the ministry said.

The current tally of coronavirus cases included samples dating back to February 9. There were 54 recoveries which brought the number of active cases to 811.

The 39 new cases consisted of 24 women and 15 men. Seven of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious. All but seven of the cases were Barbadians.

The active cases include two inmates of Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds who are still to recover from the 363 cases of coronavirus there.

The number of confirmed cases reached 2,647 – 1 211 females and 1 436 males – from which 1,807 people had recovered from illness.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 118,636 tests (SD/BGIS)
