If it is one thing that the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us is that the stronger our bodies and our immune systems are, the better equipped we are to fight off viruses.

It is in this vein that I believe the government and every household should focus on eating better and exercising at least five days a week.

While financial considerations might prevent some from eating the healthiest foods, exercise is very inexpensive, whether on the road, a pasture, the beach or in the sea. Bajans should now include exercise as part of their daily routine, making it as necessary and natural as brushing one’s teeth or taking a bath.

We also collectively need to find a way to make fruits and vegetables more affordable to a wider section of our population. It is so ironic that the worst foods to put into our bodies are always the cheapest. Fast food outlets provide employment for our people but hence forth we should make visits to such places at the barest minimum.

And while we are at it, we need to avail ourselves of some of the bushes around us growing wild that have many medicinal qualities but because of the disconnect between the older and younger generation, a lot of the knowledge about them is not known or has been lost.

Have you ever noticed that sick animals – dogs and cats especially – often seek out specific bushes to nibble on if they are sick or vomiting? There is a lesson there for us humans. Blessings!
