$250 for going mask-less

Vendor Shayne Douglas Marshall has been charged with illegally dumping coconut shells at one of this island’s quarries.

When the 57-year-old, of Rock Hall, St Philip appeared before Magistrate Elwood Watts he pleaded not guilty to breaching Regulation 5 clause (i) of the Health Services (Nuisances) Regulation 1969 Chapter 44. It is alleged that Marshall deposited coconut shells in the area of Oldbury Quarry in such a state as to be dangerous to health.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge before the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court telling the magistrate “I was put in a situation”.

The matter was adjourned until May 5 and he is on $500 bail in the meantime.

However, the vendor had to part with $250 immediately after he admitted to breaching Paragraph (14) clause (a) of the Emergency Management (COVID-19) (CURFEW) (No.4) Directive when he failed to wear a mask while being at the said quarry, a public place, on the same date.

Marshall avoided a 14-day sentence by paying the fine on the spot.
