SSA, RBPF undertake massive clean-up near Holetown Police Station

Years of hoarding large amounts of garbage came to an end Saturday, as members of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) and the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) undertook a massive clean-up exercise in Holetown.

According to Public Relations Officer of the SSA, Carl ‘Alf’ Padmore the garbage, located near to the Holetown Police Station, and neighbouring businesses, accumulated for just under two decades, and had led to a serious public health safety situation in the area.

“What you would see is the accumulation of garbage over 15 years, done by a gentleman who identifies himself as Victor Roach, who would have been occupying land not belonging to him or land he did not get permission to reside on.

“Persons would have complained about threats from this young man, they would have complained about hoarding, they would have complained that rats would have come from this property over to where they are. So the SSA is here co-operating to one; dismantle, and to clean the area, and we are trying our best to get help for [Roach],” he explained.

More than four truckloads of waste was removed from the area on Saturday.

Padmore also implored Barbadians to contact the relevant authorities as soon as possible, when situations arise that warrant the intervention of the SSA. (SB)
