BWA urging wise water use and conservative practices

The Barbados Water Authority wishes to inform that it has no plans to shut off the water supply across the island.

The Authority operates a water distribution network which is a closed system.

This means that our infrastructure is not exposed or vulnerable to any ash fall being experienced.

BWA personnel will continue to closely monitor the situation at all of its facilities including the regular testing of the water quality.

Conservative Water Use

The BWA wishes, however, to remind Barbadians to be conservative in their water use at present.

We are still within the dry season and still very much in a drought period. From time to time, low water levels will be experienced at some of its reservoirs that will cause the BWA to stop supply from those facilities temporarily.

While the Authority understands that many persons wish to wash down their yards, cars, homes etc. as a result of the heavy ash fall, please be reminded that the island continues to receive heavy bouts of ash fall.

This use of potable water at this time will be counter productive and will put unnecessary strain on the island’s water resources.
