Accused denies theft, trespassing charges

Given his health challenges a 64-yearold man was given a second chance at bail when he appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Ulric Randolph Crichlow, of Pasture Road, Bank Hall, St Michael is accused of entering the house of Cheryl Seale as a trespasser on April 24 and stealing a passport belonging to the Crown as well as $1 000 belonging to the homeowner.

“I will never do that, that will never happen,” the accused told Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes when asked whether he was guilty or not of the charges.

Crichlow made much of the same utterances when told of the charge that he used disorderly behaviour on February 26 within Seale’s sight which likely caused alarm.

Following his not guilty pleas, Sergeant Vernon Waithe objected to bail on the grounds that the accused was given bail back in February in connection with the same complainant. The prosecutor reminded the court that one of the conditions of that bail was for Crichlow to stay away from Seale. Waithe said based on the allegations before the court the complainant needed protection from the accused.

In his bail application, however, the apparently feeble Crichlow stated: “I personally now, I don’t want to see her because she put me in the hospital three times already.” He also told the Court that he had only recently been released from hospital.

After listening to some of his utterings Chief Magistrate Weekes granted him bail, with one surety, in the sum of $4 000.

However the bail came with the condition that he moves in with a relative in St George and stays away from Seale until the matters are adjudicated in the law courts.

The case against Crichlow will come up again on October 28.
