BSSAC officially cancelled

Principal of Harrison College Juanita Wade thanked the business community for the contribution.

For the second consecutive year the 2021 Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championship (BSSAC) has been officially cancelled.

A press release signed by Juanita Wade, the Interim Co-Chair of the BSSAC Committee and Principal of Harrison College, stated that given the uncertainty and after careful consultation they had made the decision to call off the event.

“The Management Committee of the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships has worked behind the scenes to explore a possible window for the staging of a scaled down version of the 2021 Championships. Given the uncertainty of the present situation and after careful consultation, we have determined that any window for the staging of the competition has now closed. As such, we regret to inform that the 2021 Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championship has been officially cancelled,” the press release said.

It added that the BSSAC committee has already began to focus their attention to the planning and staging of the BSSAC Cross Country series in November 2021 and the 2022 edition of BSSAC.

“It is our hope that we will be able to overcome challenges posed by the

pandemic, allowing us to again set the stage for our athletes to showcase their outstanding talent.

“The BSSAC Management Committee thanks our sponsors, athletes, partners, and the general public, for their understanding and continued support,” the release said.

This news came less than a week after the cancellation of the CARIFTA Games in Bermuda. (PR/ML)
