Cupid is new NHC GM

A former radio personality will be taking over the running of the state’s housing and lands provider from tomorrow.

Barbados TODAY has confirmed that unsuccessful 2008 BLP prospect for St George South, Ian Cupid Gill will be the new general manager of the National Housing Corporation (NHC).

“I am ready to build on the legacy of my illustrious predecessors as I lead the Government’s housing initiatives for such a time as this. I believe that I have been prepared for this role based on my qualifications, theoretical and practical work experience as well as my ability to motivate a team and deliver results in a pressured environment,” Gill told Barbados TODAY Monday night.

Gill, will succeed Garvey Alleyne who passed away in August last year.

Deputy General Manager Clyde Cummins who had been acting in his place, will revert to his substantive post tomorrow.

Gill brings several years of experience in construction and Project Management.  He also brings management experience in agriculture, culinary arts and more recently in broadcasting.

He produced quantitative and qualitative data for the White Paper on Social Development Policy for Barbados and worked on the Green Paper on Social Development in the Eastern Caribbean, with renowned Development Specialist Dr. Clive Thomas.

Gill is the holder of an MSc in Project Planning and Development from the Project Planning Unit, University of Bradford in the UK and a BSc in Economics and Management from the University of the West Indies (UWI).

The appointment of a new GM at the corporation comes at a time when questions are being raised about the role of the NHC on the heels of the creation of a new company by Government known as HOPE Inc.(Home Ownership Providing Energy) to provide affordable housing for the average private and public sector worker.
