DEO Meet & Greet to engage public

Members of the District Emergency Organisation (DEO) will engage with the public over the coming days during a “meet and greet” exercise at various entities and throughout communities.

The DEO members will identify themselves to persons and share information on hurricane preparedness. They will also use the opportunity to speak to the public about their organisation and recruit new volunteers.

On Thursday, June 17, DEO representatives for the City of Bridgetown will visit a number of areas throughout the constituency from 11:00 a.m. to educate persons about their organisation and encourage persons to volunteer.

Areas targeted are: Sports and Games; Independence Square; Painters Plaza; Jordan’s Supermarket, Fairchild Street; Carters Hardware in High Street; the Barbados Fire Service Headquarters on Cheapside and the Central Police Station.

Then on Friday, June 18, DEO members will head to St. Philip North where they will visit the District “C” Police Station, the Hilda Skeene Primary School, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Maintenance Depot in Six Roads, and the St. Philip Polyclinic. They are expected to move off from the District “C” Police Station at 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, June 19, the DEO members from St. Michael North West will greet and meet persons at Little Caesars Pizza and the Carlton and A-One Complex in Black Rock, St. Michael, from 11:00 a.m.

On that same day, the St. Philip South DEO members will visit over 30 locations in their area. Some of these include businesses located at the Emerald City Complex; Automotive Art; Mark’s Auto Spares; the Royal Chinese Restaurant; the Rubis Kirtons Service Station; Cutters of Barbados; the Crane Resort; Chefette Restaurants Limited; Nicholls Bakery and Clara’s Hideaway.

This forms part of the activities to mark Hurricane Awareness Month, which runs from June 1 to 30, under the theme: Be Storm Ready. (BGIS)
