Clarke falls in shootout with police

The piercing sound of bullets rang out at Lower Gills Road, St Michael this evening, ending in the death of a man who had snubbed police requests to turn himself in.

Wanted man Kiastan Hallen Clarke, 27, of 2nd Avenue Green Hill, St Michael, was declared dead on the spot after he engaged police in a shootout around 1:20 p.m.

According to police, they were on patrol along Lower Gills Road, St Michael when they encountered a vehicle they had reason to stop.

As the vehicle came to a halt, two occupants got out and fled.

A third individual who was armed with a firearm engaged police and officers fired back to defend themselves.

The man, Clarke, who was wanted in connection with serious criminals matters, was injured and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.

Police are continuing investigations.
