Court Lawyer assigned case Barbados Today18/06/2021091 views Accused Raymond John Mofford now has an attorney assigned to him through the Community Legal Aid Services, to defend him. Madam Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell had made the order for the lawyer on Wednesday when the case against the Silver Hill, Christ Church began before a nine-member jury in the No. 4 Supreme Court. Today, Asante Brathwaite appeared for the accused who is on trial accused of committing an act of serious indecency against a seven-year-old girl on September 12, 2014. Mofford who was 59 years old at the time of the alleged offence has pleaded not guilty to the charge. Brathwaite told the judge that having been now retained she was seeking an adjournment in order to get “instructions” on the case from her client so that “we can move forward”. She added, “I understand that the matter is part heard with the virtual complainant having already given evidence, so we just need a short adjournment.” After her submissions, Justice Smith-Bovell addressed the jury. “Mr Mofford now has counsel so we can’t go any further today,” said the judge who then adjourned the case until Monday. Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney and Crown counsel Kevin Forde are prosecuting the case.
