Reifer to Moore: ‘Show up in St George North’

Former Democratic Labour Party candidate Floyd Reifer declared Monday he wants the MP who beat him in the St George North by-election to show up to represent her constituents.

Reifer,  who faced off against Barbados Workers Union General Secretary Toni Moore last November has accused the MP of “disappearing”.

“Why is Toni Moore hiding?” Reifer asked claiming that since Moore was elected to office, many constituents have said that their calls have gone unanswered.

“She has not made an effort to address concerns and many promises have been broken”, the former West Indies cricket captain said.

He further added: “It is as if Toni Moore has already forgotten the people of St. George North, and she has disappeared.”

Reifer said it was unfair to residents that he has been getting calls weekly from “disappointed” constituents.

“For me, this is not political but a genuine plight on behalf of the people of St. George North,” he declared. “I ask Miss Moore not to hide from the people who elected her but to be a responsible parliamentarian and make the effort to help the constituents.”

The sports educator said there are many people from St. George North going through hard times.

“People are suffering and Toni Moore is ducking and hiding,” he contended. “Many people are facing great difficulties, unable to support their children, put food on the table and keep a roof above their heads. It is not fair that you promise to help, and now when people are trying to find you, you have gone missing. This is what you were elected to do, so represent.”

Reifer, the current West Indies Under-19  coach, said he is currently focusing on his professional commitments which require him to travel on occasion.

But he declared he is still a constituent and a member of the St. George North family adding that his fellow constituents’ cries are “heartbreaking”.

He said:  “A couple of weeks ago, she came and cut a ribbon at the pavilion and went back into hiding. It is not fair that the people in Lower Estate cannot even get an update on the dump issue which is still a major problem for residents.

“Too many of these politicians are just about show and not about their duty to help people. Representation is about the people.” (PR/IMC)
