NPC: Stay away from leaking gas metres

Members of the public are strongly urged to stay away from leaking gas meters to avoid injury to themselves.
Officials at the National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) this afternoon expressed concern that persons were gathering around leaking meters damaged during the passage of Hurricane Elsa, thereby exposing themselves to the potential of fire and the effects of inhalation.
They advised that in situations where gas was detected, persons should turn off all electronics. If the smell is emanating from inside a house, home owners should turn off all breakers to avoid sparks when power is restored.
In the event of an emergency, persons are advised to call the NPC at 430-4000 or 430-4099. They may also call 234-2063/234-2064/253-9096/230-3224/230-1826.
