Mistrial declared in serious indecency case

Madam Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell on Wednesday declared a mistrial in the serious indecency case of a man in his 60s.

Raymond John Mofford, of Silver Sands, Christ Church, had been on trial before a nine-member jury in Supreme Court No. 4 for allegedly committing the act against a seven-year-old girl on September 12, 2014.

He had pleaded not guilty in the matter.

However, at the conclusion of the case, attorneys for both sides – Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney and Crown Counsel Kevin Forde for the prosecution, and defence lawyer Asante Brathwaite – made submissions in the absence of the jury, which led to the judge’s decision to withdraw the case from the panel.
