Lashley awaits sentencing for having gun and ammo

Lawyers for the prosecution and defence will at month-end make submissions on sentencing for a man who admitted to gun and ammunition offences.

Jason Omar Lashley, from Mottley Land, Bank Hall, St Michael, pleaded guilty before Justice Christopher Birch in the Supreme Court No. 5a to having a .32 S&W revolver and two rounds of ammunition. He had the illegal items on June 3, 2019.

Lashley’s wife found the gun in a barrel while searching for kitchen towels and she reported the matter to police. Lashley later arrived home and took responsibility for the illegal weapon.

“A fella that I know tell me hold onto it for he but I sorry I hold it for he,” he had told police.

Lashley was taken to the police station where he was again told of his rights and that of getting an attorney, but he replied: “I ain’t want no lawyer. I gine get one later.”

He declined to give a written statement but under further questioning, said he got the firearm from a “fella that I know that is in my neighbourhood”.

“I don’t know his real name but I call him Tall Man. I should have told him, ‘you and the gun go your way’.”

The facts of the case were read by Crown Counsel Joyann Catwell who was holding for Senior Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas.

The matter will come up again for hearing before Justice Birch on July 31. A pre-sentencing report on Lashley’s life has already been ordered.

He is represented by attorney-at-law Rashida Edwards.
