Court says McDowall can run for NUPW presidency

Suspended president of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) Akanni McDowall has been given the go-ahead to run for re-election.
The order was issued a short time ago by High Court Justice Cecil McCarthy, who also ruled that the NUPW cannot hold the elections until at least 21 days have passed.
The court also ordered that the union extend the period for McDowall to submit his candidacy for president or any other elected post, on or before July 29.
The judge did not interfere with the union’s decision to suspend McDowall as president but ordered his reinstatement as a member only.
Justice McCarthy said that an early trial will be held before the High Court to deal with all other disputed issues.
