Fraudster remanded to prison following guilty verdict

A St Philip man was remanded to prison today after a High Court jury, on Friday, convicted him on multiple counts of fraud.

Following days of trial before Madam Justice Wanda Blair and just over an hour of deliberation by the nine-member jury, Anderson Leon Browne, 67, from Seaview Road, Ruby Park, St Philip was convicted of 22 counts of bank fraud and one count of money laundering which he committed ten years ago.

A pre-sentencing report has been ordered on Browne who also goes by the aliases Fabian Kellman, Short man, and Andy. He has four similar convictions.

He will reappear before Justice Blair in the No. 5 Supreme Court later in the assizes.

In the 22 counts related to bank fraud, the offences occurred between June 7 and 16, 2011. He was convicted of uttering forged bills of exchange to Barbados National Bank Inc purporting to be Government of Barbados Orders knowing them to be forged and obtaining the money.

Browne on June 16 made an order in the sum of $65 000 to Codrington Agency; $63 200 to Graphic Designs; and $66 100 to AEC Communications on that day.

The previous day – June 15 – a forged bill for $82 000 to Central Printing was made as well as $70 000 to Western Landscaping.

On June 7, two amounts were forged and made payable to Stephen Walcott in the sums of $27 850 and $29 500 as well as $26 900 to Kennedy Ryan.

The sum of $79 856 was made out and obtained for Food Suppliers Ltd on June 9, as well as $58 000 to South Coast Consulting and $65 000 to DB Cleaning Services.

Browne was also convicted of engaging in money laundering in the disposal of $633 415 being the proceeds of crime to wit theft of money.

The convict was represented by attorney-at-law Hilary Nelson. Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney and Crown Counsel Danielle Mottley were the prosecutors.
