PM Mottley appeals to global community to help Haiti

Prime Minister Mia Mottley has appealed to the global community to rally to Haiti’s assistance.

Officials in Haiti have confirmed at least 724 people are dead after a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Caribbean nation on Saturday.

Beyond what we must continue to do as CARICOM nations, there must be a global reckoning in which we must all come together and truly participate to give Haiti and the Haitian people their rightful chance for stability and prosperity in this the 3rd decade of the 21st century,” Mottley wrote on Twitter.

“And it starts with working to create a floor in our Caribbean to create a standard below which no one must fall, to guarantee access to the basics needed. And the world should know that Haiti cannot be helped by means of more debt.”

The Barbados Prime Minister is urging the world to simply and finally accept moral responsibility and repair the damage, fight for climate justice and make wrong things right.
