Scotiabank helps with back-to-school needs

Scotiabank has donated $10,000 towards Eden Lodge Youth Charitable Trust’s (ELYCT) Annual Back to School Programme, helping many young people with essential supplies for the new school year.

The programme concentrates on less fortunate children from low income households.

They receive assistance in various ways, including vouchers to purchase full school uniforms, school shoes, backpacks, textbooks, stationery supplies, as well as funds to assist with payment of the textbook loan scheme and school fees.

This year, ELYCT aims to support 285 students across 36 primary and secondary schools in Barbados.

In commenting on Scotiabank’s involvement, Dwayne Grazette, president and CEO of ELYCT indicated: “We’re elated by the participation and contribution by Scotiabank at this time, when we are seeing a decline in contributions due to the pandemic.

At the same time, the pandemic has resulted in more homes being unable to afford the basic school needs and supplies and as such, Scotiabank’s donation will help many students.

We’re grateful that Scotiabank has confidence in ELYCT and the children of Barbados who will one day in turn, go on to bigger things and become customers or even employees of the Bank.”

“Education plays such an important role in the lives of our young people,” indicated Suzette Armoogam-Shah, Managing Director, Scotiabank Barbados. We’re pleased to contribute to this initiative that helps young people stay in school, where they can discover their full potential and grow into well rounded individuals who contribute positively to enhancing the lives of their families and communities. Scotiabank remains committed to helping provide these opportunities for young people to succeed.”  (PR)
