Elderly man collapses and dies along Mighty Grynner Highway

An elderly male pedestrian collapsed and died along the Mighty Grynner Highway, St Michael, police said.

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. on Sunday, near the Central Purchasing Building.

The victim has been identified, by relatives who visited the scene, as 72-year-old Gordon Proverbs of Brighton, Black Rock, St Michael.

Ambulance personnel were summoned by a passerby who had earlier witnessed the incident. On their response and examination there was no sign of life. A medical doctor visited the scene and pronounced death.

There was no visible evidence of foul play and police are treating this as a sudden death.

Investigations are ongoing.
