Detectives from the Northern Division’s Criminal Investigation Department have formally charged Dave Orlando Maynard, 38, of Lashley Road, Fitts Village, St James for the June 1 offence. According to a release from Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss, on May 29, Maynard told his father, who is a police officer, “he was robbed at gunpoint whilst in Speightstown, St Peter.” “This prompted his father to make a public appeal on the radio in which he referred to the incident involving his son. The matter was highlighted in a section of the media and was formally reported to the police on June 1, 2021. A formal investigation was launched into the matter. “In addition, an internal investigation was also initiated relative to the conduct of other police officers in relation to malfeasance. Investigations into the matters showed that the accused had made false reports to the police relative to the matter and he was subsequently arrested and formally charged for the offence,” the release stated. Maynard was scheduled to appear at the Holetown Magistrates’ Court today.
