Two Barbadians cop Chevening Scholarships

Two Barbadians are among the 15 recipients of this year’s Chevening Scholarships.

Chad Monerville and Shaquille Newton, whose twin brother Stefan was a 2019 Chevening Scholar, have been awarded full scholarships to pursue Master’s Degrees in the UK.

Monerville will pursue studies in Real Estate Finance at the University of Reading; while Newton will study Legal Drafting at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London.

The 13 other 2021 Chevening Scholars for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean are: Sharifa George, Malaeka Goodwin and Jeniece St Romain from Antigua and Barbuda; Dominican  Annika Bellot; Grenadian Arya Redhead; Michelle Slack of St Kitts and Nevis; Yenver Caezar, Sherneil Charlery, Lucius Doxerie, Windia Jaunai and Chadel Mathurin of St Lucia; and Vincentians Julonna Peterson and Lorielle Robertson.

“I am delighted to see the number of scholarships that continue to be awarded to the region each year,” said British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Scott Furssedonn-Wood. “The wide array of successful scholars from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean speaks to the depth of talent in this region.”

“If you are someone who is interested in applying for Chevening, let this success be an encouragement to follow through on that desire; and submit your application before the deadline,” he added.

The Chevening Scholarships scheme is a global scholarship programme of the British government. The scholarships, awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential, are funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision makers.
