Clerk on harassment charge granted bail

A clerical officer accused of committing two offences against his ex-girlfriend has been warned to stay away from her and refrain from circulating on social media any photographs they may have taken together.

The orders were part of bail conditions imposed by Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes on Romel O’Brien Elcock, 39, of 1st Avenue Chapman Lane, St Michael.

Elcock is charged with harassing Leah Bynoe in public along Harbour Road between July 8 and August 27.

He is also alleged to have damaged the bonnet of the woman’s car either with intent or recklessness.

Elcock pleaded not guilty to the two offences before Weekes. There were no objections to bail and he secured the $3,000 amount with one surety.

As the Chief Magistrate gave the accused a March 27 date to reappear before the District A Magistrates’ Court he said: “I do not understand why you all are being charged over women. If they want to leave you, let them go.”
