COVID-19: Roving jabs off to ‘steady start’ in housing areas

The Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 mobile vaccination campaign got off to a steady start on Thursday, after two pop-up stations shot into two densely populated public housing areas just after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

When a team for Barbados TODAY visited Deacons Farm, St Michael and Silver Hill, Christ Church, several residents were seen over the course of the morning period making their way to get the jab, as anyone over age 12 was able to choose from the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines.

While at Deacons Farm, Public Health Nurse Shepherd said that the interest so far had been good with persons readily coming to the mobile spot so far for the day, with students in particular showing interest in getting vaccinated.

“We’ve had a steady flow of persons so far for the morning,” she told Barbados TODAY. “Most persons have been asking for the Pfizer vaccine today, we had a few students who came early to take that vaccine because they are looking to get back into the school soon and have face-to-face contact.”

Mobile vaccination sites within densely populated communities are expected to continue into next week, with the Ministry of Health aiming to have at least two separate locations daily. (SB)
