BREAKING NEWS : High Court dismisses cases against COVID-19 curfew orders

 

The High Court has dismissed all claims brought against the State by three defendants seeking declarations, judicial review and damages, regarding the COVID-19 curfew orders and closure of shops in February.

The matters were brought by Senator Caswell Franklyn and businessmen Adrian Kellman and Benson Straker.

Kellman had challenged the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit’s closure of his Thornbury Hill, Christ Church bar while Benson Straker sued the Attorney General and Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, alleging they acted unlawfully and beyond their legal power of authority in enforcing the Emergency Management (Amendment) Act, which governs the directives.

The decision was handed down a short time ago by Madame Justice Jacqueline Cornelius.
