Manufacturers, importers invited to register for workshop

Manufacturers, importers and persons who import goods on a small scale are invited to register for a workshop on Implementing Standards for the Use of Disposable Plastics in Barbados.

The workshop will be hosted by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy and the Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) on Wednesday, November 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m. via the Zoom platform.

Persons may register for the workshop by contacting Consultant at the Ministry, Lee Rose, at lee.rose@barbados.gov.bb, or Senior Administration Officer at the Ministry, Lynn Culpepper, at lynn.culpepper@barbados.gov.bb.

Registration begins on Monday, October 18, and runs until Monday, November 1.

The Control of Disposable Plastics Act came into effect in 2020 and prohibits the importation, manufacture, distribution and sale of certain single-use petroleum-based plastic items.

Barbados, through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy and the BNSI, is seeking to implement the ASTM and ISO standards. (BGIS)
