Appeal Court dismisses action by manslayer

Damien Lecoursey Reveria will continue to serve the sentence handed down to him after being found guilty of manslaughter back in 2018.

This morning, the Court of Appeal, composed of Justices Rejendra Narine, Francis Belle and Jefferson Cumberbatch, dismissed Reveria’s appeal against his sentence and conviction, saying it had no merit.

A jury had found Reveira, of 4th Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter in connection with the October 9, 2010 death of Anderson Ashby.

Madam Justice Jacqueline Cornelius sentenced him to 15 years in prison less the 2 454 days he had already spent at Dodds on remand leaving him with eight years and three months to serve for his crime.

However, the convicted man, through his legal counsel Michael Lashley Q.C., appealed on 12 grounds – eleven against his conviction and one against the sentence. Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney and Senior Crown Counsel Olivia Davis responded for the prosecution.

In handing down a “unanimous” decision this morning Justice Narine said: “We were unable to find any merit in any of the grounds of appeal.”

He added: “The appeal is dismissed, conviction and the sentence are affirmed.”
