BMS issues significant haze advisory for island

The Barbados Meteorological Services(BMS)  has issued a significant haze advisory for the island, warning of a reduction in visibility.

It explained that an advisory is issued when “dust haze has already or is forecast to reduce visibility to between 5 to 10km within 36 hours.”

The forecasters said: “Hazy conditions due to a combination of Saharan dust and volcanic smoke from La Palma, Canary Islands will continue to reduce visibility across Barbados and the surrounding marine area.

“These conditions will persist over the coming days fluctuating in intensity. Residents, visitors and marine users should be prepared to take action, as a significant reduction in visibility is either likely or already occurring.”

The advisory will be updated at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
