Injured Wildey bank workers ‘recovering’

Two female bank tellers who were wounded in Wednesday’s armed robbery attempt at Republic Bank, Wildey, are on the mend, bank officials said Thursday.

“Our two female team members have been discharged and are recovering well, said Sophia Allsopp-Cambridge, the bank’s marketing and corporate communications manager.

“Again we thank the Royal Barbados Police Force both for the excellent work they carried out at the scene as well as for the compassion they showed to our Republic Bank team yesterday. We also thank the many people who have inquired and sent offers of support.”

Around 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, the gunman entered the bank, demanded money of the tellers, fired a gun, then fled in a waiting car. One woman was said to have been grazed by a bullet and the other hurt by a ricochet.

The Wildey Branch will reopen on Monday at 10 a.m., said Allsopp-Cambridge.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist with their investigations into the robbery to contact Police Emergency at 211, the District ‘A’ Police Station at 430-7242, or 430-7246 or any other police station.
