Scholarships, exhibitions to be announced after CXC grade review – Govermment

The Caribbean Examinations Council will review some of the grades awarded in this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), the Ministry of Education said Monday.

The winners of the Barbados Scholarship and Exhibitions will then be announced to reflect the new grades, the ministry said.

The development is the outcome of the second round of talks involving the Ministry of Education, the regional examining body, Barbados Secondary Union of Teachers, Barbados Association of Public Secondary Schools and the Group of Concerned Parents of Barbados allied with student advocates and the Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Association.

Following the release of this year’s results, questions were raised about some of the grades handed to students.

The ministry said: “It had been brought to our attention that the grades that some of our students received were not in alignment with expected grades.

“CXC has assured the ministry that reviewed grades will be issued next week. Subsequent to the release of the grades, the ministry will make the announcement of the Barbados Scholarship and Exhibition winners.”
