Five remanded to prison over drug bust in the north

Five men caught in a counter-narcotics operation off the island’s north coast have been charged in connection with the seizure of 500 kilos of marijuana.

The four Guyanese and one Barbadian were remanded to Dodds Prison until January 19, 2022, after appearing before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes on Wednesday.

The accused who were not required to plead are: Cedric Melville, 46; Suresh Dindyàl, 37; Allan Raindance Sookhai, 54; and David Joseph Jardine, 33, all from Guyana; and Lorenzo Jason Jordan, 37, of Lot 28 Sago Palm Drive, Gemswick, St Philip.

The charges against them stemmed from a joint counter-narcotics operation involving the Barbados Coast Guard, the Drug Squad of the Barbados Police Service and a team from the Regional Security System (RSS), on November 24.

A pirogue vessel was also seized in the operation.
