IMF Mission Chief for Suriname, Ding Ding: said apart from considering the request for the EFF, the executive board will also discuss the request for access of 366.8 per cent quota of their special drawing rights (SDR) or US$688 million. “If approved by the IMF Executive Board, SDR 39.4 million, about US$ 56.4 million, would be immediately available for Suriname,” said Ding, adding that a Staff-Level Agreement on this Fund-supported programme was reached on April 29, 2021. He said that the executive board was updated on developments on Suriname on July 29, this year. In July, the IMF said that President Chan Santokhi’s administration inherited a very difficult economic situation. It said to restore macroeconomic stability, it has undertaken a broad range of policy actions, including delivering on most of the prior actions that were agreed in the staff-level agreement reached in April.
