Barbados records 72 new cases of COVID-19

There were 72 people – 32 males and 40 females – who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, December 10, when the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory conducted 1,204 tests.

Of the new cases, nine persons were under the age of 18, and 63 were 18 years and older.

There were 292 people in isolation facilities, and 1,825 in home isolation.

Two deaths were recorded – a 51-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man – who passed away at the Harrison Point’s Isolation Facility.  They were both unvaccinated.

As at December 10, the number of people who have died from the virus is 251.

The public health laboratory has carried out 450,060 tests since February last year, and recorded 26,740 cases (12,730 males and 14,010 females) of COVID-19.

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 154,444 (67.6 per cent of the eligible population).  The total number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 139,726 (51.6 per cent of the total population or 61.2 per cent of the eligible population).  The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
