Regional congrats for PM

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

The leaders of Guyana and Dominica were among the first in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to extend congratulations to Prime Minister Mia Mottley on her Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) resounding win in Wednesday’s general election.

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the decisive result was “a sign of confidence in Prime Minister Mottley’s leadership and her ability to steer the newly-established republic to growth and prosperity”.

He pledged Dominica’s friendship and support.

For President Irfaan Ali of Guyana, Mottley’s return to office opens the door for the two CARICOM members to advance cooperation.

“Your re-election provides us with the opportunity to concretise the plans and programmes that we have discussed to build on the cooperation between Guyana and Barbados. I look forward, as well, to our continued collaboration at the regional level, as we endeavour to advance our integration process and to secure the benefits that our peoples deserve,” he said in a message to Mottley.

CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett also highlighted the BLP’s overwhelming success.

She told Prime Minister Mottley in a congratulatory message that her party’s 30-nil victory indicated that Barbadians “have every confidence in your stewardship and look forward to your continued leadership to guide them on a path that would ensure their progress”.
