Man dies in freak accident

A St John man died in a freak accident at Thornbury Hill, Christ Church on Friday afternoon.

Police said around 2 p.m., Jamal Omar Beckles, 38, of Miller’s Land near Massiah Street, St John, was under a vehicle doing repairs when it fell on him.

One man on the scene, who did not give his name, told Barbados TODAY he was among a few men who attempted to rescue the victim.

“I just went over there, saw the guys trying to lift the car, so what I did, I got the jack, raised the car so the guys could actually lift the car further up off the gentleman, and then we pulled him out,” he said. “He was not responsive at all.”

A doctor pronounced the man dead at the scene.
