Tuach makes quarterfinal of the Pismo Beach Open

Chelsea Tuach has continued to excel in the World Surf League’s Regional Qualifying Series, reaching her fourth quarterfinal in as many events and solidifying her ranking among the top five women in the North America region.

Tuach dominated her round of 32 heat with her powerful, backhand surfing scoring a 6.80 and a 7.40 for a total of 14.20, the highest heat total of that round. Second was Autumn Hayes from the USA with a heat total of 12.55 while Izzi Gomez from Colombia and Talia Swindel from the USA were eliminated in third and fourth respectively.

She placed second to Alyssa Spencer in her round of 16 heat in tricky, low tide conditions, eliminating Makena Burke and ultimate surfer Tia Blanco from the event.

“It feels amazing to be back in the quarterfinals. All the girls are ripping and in the tricky conditions on offer it comes down to wave selection, determination and belief. I’m looking forward to my quarterfinal match up with Leilani McGonagle and hope to keep making heats,” an elated Tuach said. (PR)
